Pentru prima dată în istoria evenimentului, nominalizările au fost anunţate, live, în două părţi. Regizorii J.J. Abrams şi Alfonso Cuaron au anunţat primul grup de nominalizări din totalul de 24 de categorii, iar actorul Chris Pine şi Cheryl Boone Isaacs, preşedinteţe Academiei de film americane, au anunţat al doilea set de nominalizări.

Cea de-a 87-a gală de decernare a premiilor Oscar va avea loc pe 22 februarie, la Los Angeles. Evenimentul va fi prezentat în premieră de actorul Neil Patrick Harris.

La sfârşitul lunii noiembrie, premiile Oscar onorifice au fost acordate actorului şi scenaristului Jean-Claude Carrière, cineastului Hayao Miyazaki şi actriţei şi cântăreţei Maureen O’Hara. De asemenea, celebrul cântăreţ Harry Belafonte a fost recompensat în cadrul aceleiaşi gale cu Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

Începând cu ora 15.30, ora României, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, preşedintele Academiei Americane, regizorii J. J. Abrams („Star Wars 7″) şi Alfonso Cuarón („Gravity 3 D”), dar şi actorul Chris Pine („Star Trek Into Darkness”) vor prezenta nominalizările pentru gala Oscar 2015, în direct de la the Samuel Goldwyn Theater din Beverly Hills, California. Cea de-a 87 gală Oscar va avea loc pe 22 februarie, la Dolby Theatre din Hollywood. Actorul Neil Patrick Harris va fi pentru prima dată prezentatorul ceremoniei. Premiile Oscar 2015: 24 de trofee Pe lângă premiile obişnuite acordate la 24 de categorii, Academia va acorda patru trofee onorifice: actorului şi muzicianul Harry Belafonte (87 de ani), actriţei irlandeze Maureen O’Hara (94 de ani), regizorului japonez Hayao Miyazaki (73 de ani) şi scenaristului Jean-Claude Carriere (83 de ani).
